My Interests
Sports: Boxing
I have played various sports throughout my life at the high school and collegiate level including gymnastics, basketball, track, and tennis. Post-college I really wanted to get back into competitive athletics and training. One day saw females sparring at my gym and I decided I wanted to try it.The boxing path am I on started there. I started training in boxing 2 ½ years ago and I had my first fight 2 years ago.
I am currently the 7th ranked lightweight amateur boxer in the country, and I have fought the current Olympian in my weight class. I have qualified for and competed in the three Olympic Trial Qualifier tournaments in 2015 for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. I hope to soon turn professional and explore where that journey takes me.
I appreciate what I have learned from playing sports. They challenge me in a variety of ways and give me a unique opportunity to continue to learn about myself. I am hard working, dedicated, committed and dispilned, which I have shown through boxing. Boxing has pushed my mental and physical strength beyond what I knew was possible for myself. It has improved my confidence and allowed me to trust in my abilities, which have been transferable and valuable skills in other aspects of my life.
Language and Culture: Spanish and Latin America
Part of my family heritage and ethnicity is rooted in Latin America; however, I have not had the opportunity to explore this aspect of my history. I am intrigued by the cutlure and deep history of Central and South America and I hope to travel and explore that part of the world in the near future. Since I took my first Spanish course in middle school, I have loved learning the language. One of the minors I earned during college was in Spanish, and I focused my coursework on conversation because I have always hoped to become fluent and fully bilingual. I want to use this language skill in both personal and professional settings. I continue to work on learning Spanish and I enjoy the opportunity to challenge myself and converse in Spanish with friends and family.
